Hi it's Ursula

I was born in Peru and moved to California at eighteen to study photography: first Fine Art at San Francisco Art Institute, then the technical and commercial side at Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara. From there, I moved to New York, where I spent several years assisting Douglas Foulke, learning hands-on day after day: indoor lighting, building mood through light, and balancing available and artificial sources to get an image exactly right. Later, based in Miami, I continued my training with Dieter Fieres, this time outdoors: I learned how to read natural light and shape it to do exactly what I envisioned. I also had the chance to work alongside other respected names in the industry, among them Patrick Demarchelier, Peter Lindbergh, Fabrizio Ferri, and Pepe Botella, absorbing what I could from watching them work, even in shorter engagements. Those years put me on sets for major fashion productions and celebrity shoots alike. That experience shaped the eye I still shoot with today.

Over the years, that same eye has traveled with me: to the deserts of New Mexico and California, to the beaches of the Caribbean and as far as Australia, photographing both in the studio and on location, on fashion sets and high-profile shoots as well. Wherever the location, I walk in with a clear picture already forming in my mind: the light, the mood, the story I want to tell. But I stay open; if a better idea surfaces on set, or the light does something I didn't plan for, I follow it. Getting the image is rarely just technical. I talk to my models, draw out real emotion, and guide them to whatever the shot calls for; all the while keeping the client's vision and the purpose of that session at the center of everything I do.
